We Recycle Hard Hats!

Flat Can Recycling now accepts hard hats for recycling!

Don’t know what to do with your old, expired, or damaged hard hats that are laying around?

In collaboration with our partner Granite Peak Plastics, we’re now accepting unwanted hard hats for recycling at our Flat Can Recycling HQ drop site!

Hard Hats

Why recycle your hard hats?

Over 6 million hard hats are sold every year in the USA. And, as sturdy as they are, hard hats typically have a maximum lifespan of five years (not to mention they should be inspected weekly for additional damage and issues). It may be tempting to throw those hard hats away, but that’s a heck of a lot of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) clogging up landfill.

What happens to recycled hard hats?

Thankfully, there’s a way to divert hard hats from landfill and responsibly recycle them. When you drop off your unwanted hard hats, we’ll bring them to our recycling partner, Granite Peak Plastics, who is a post-consumer plastic reclaimer focused on recovering PP and PE from challenging streams. They take that heavy-duty material that protects your noggin and process it into plastic flakes and pellets for reuse (such as plastic injection molding).

Where to recycle your hard hats.

You can recycle your hard hats at our 732 Hicks Drive drop site in Elburn, IL between 7 AM and 4 PM, Monday – Friday.

Recycling hard hats with us is free.
