Where to recycle smoke detectors

We carefully disassemble each smoke detector at our warehouse in Elburn. Our process includes employee safety as our number one priority. As each item is dismantled he/she safely manages any radioactive materials. Next components are separated into 3 categories: metal/electrical wires, battery (if applicable) and plastic. Useful materials like metal/electrical wires, batteries and plastic, are each sent to our specialized processors for their end of life. Our metal goes to eWorks in Wheeling, batteries are sent to Catalytic Innovations and converted to fertilizer and plastic is sent to our plastic processor for regrind.
